Founded in 2024 in Luxembourg, Medelu brings together young entrepreneurs and experienced professionals around one conviction: digital should strengthen the local pharmacy, not bypass it.

Pharmaceutical supervision

Catherine Welschbillig, licensed pharmacist and owner of Pharmacie Welschbillig (Esch-sur-Alzette), is the project's partner pharmacist: the system is developed and tested under her pharmaceutical supervision, with a test phase carried out in 2024.

The milestones

  • At the origins. The Medelu business plan, the joint thesis of a master's in entrepreneurship and innovation, was awarded best business plan by the Chamber of Commerce and selected as a Fit 4 Start finalist.
  • 2024. The company is founded in Luxembourg. Field test phase of the process and dashboard, under the supervision of Pharmacie Welschbillig. In July, a meeting with the Minister of Health; exchanges with the Division of Pharmacy and Medicines.
  • 2025. Three working sessions with the board of the Syndicat des Pharmaciens Luxembourgeois, from February to the summer: the concept and the complete process were presented to it, and the platform was adapted to its feedback. Meetings with the three management-software vendors used in pharmacies.
  • 2026. Pilot version of the patient app and the pharmacy dashboard; manual, user guide and on-site support ready for a limited, measured pilot.

The technical ecosystem

Medicines data relies on the profession's reference systems, the CEFIP base and Medipim: names, prices, VAT, leaflets. The integration is designed to connect to the management software in use in Luxembourg pharmacies, Logipharm, Nextpharm and Pharmony; payment goes through a PCI DSS level 1 certified page, operated by an e-money institution licensed in the Union.
